This course is designed to upgrade your existing skillset in IT/computational science and add cyber security to your field of expertise.
You will undertake industry-inspired projects and assessments to learn the theoretical and practical aspects of cyber security, particularly network defence. Learning outcomes are mapped to a variety of industry certifications such as those offered by Cisco and Palo Alto.
You’ll gain the blue and red team specialist skills and knowledge you can use in your career and learn from professionals who have strong links with local industry.
The course emphasises experiential project-based learning, so you will develop strong teamwork skills and acquire knowledge based on real-world examples.
The course builds on each unit undertaken, constructing a fully functional cyber-range and test environment that meets industry expectations and enables you to demonstrate your high-level skills in cyber security.
What you’ll learn
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of cybersecurity governance standards and practices, along with proficiency in relevant cybersecurity technologies.
- Apply advanced knowledge, skills, and problem-solving skills to develop innovative and creative multidisciplinary solutions to address challenges within the cybersecurity industry.
- Communicate effectively about cybersecurity approaches and solutions-incorporating the latest technological advancements-to both technical experts and non-technical audiences.
- Apply and develop new approaches to cybersecurity that address global challenges, ensuring alignment with international and professional standards and best practice such as IEEE, ACM, ACS, ACSC, and ISO.
- Design and implement cybersecurity solutions based on ethical principles, sustainability, and social responsibility.
- Demonstrate leadership, and effective problem-solving and decision-making skills when working independently and collaboratively, as well as ongoing, self-directed learning in advanced and emerging cybersecurity disciplines.
Admission criteria
A 3-year recognised Bachelor degree in Information Technology or Computational Science or Engineering with a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
OR
A 4-year degree in Information Technology or Computational Science or Engineering
