Opening a bank account
Many international banks in Singapore offer a wide range of services.
Different banks have different requirements as well as different types of saving and checking accounts. You may wish to bring enough cash or traveller's cheques to cover your expenses while deciding on the bank you wish to open an account with.
To open an account you will require:
- A valid passport
- A student pass or In Principle Approval Letter (IPA)
Transfer of funds
Students may receive additional funds using bank drafts made out in Singapore dollars and drawn from a Singapore bank. These can be credited to your accounts and drawn in 1-2 days. Cheques drawn on banks with no branches in Singapore may take 3 weeks to clear
Telegraphic transfer may also be made directly through another bank to your account.
