Computers

20 computers in the Computer Lab and 15 computers in the Library for Word processing, Internet surfing, emailing and other general software applications are available for students to use during operating hours. Users can login to the computers using their valid Curtin University student ID and password.

Users are obliged to obey the IT Rules & Regulations governing the use of the workstations in the Computer Lab and Library before using the workstations.

Wireless (WiFi) access in the library

Wireless coverage in the Library is available throughout the building and most recent laptops will be able to connect. If there are any cold spots it is unfortunate but if you move around a little or change direction you should get access. The Curtin Singapore has wireless spots almost all over the campus so if you are near a wall you may get access from one of the points outside the Library.

Group discussion room

Location: Library

Three Group Discussion Rooms are available for use by Curtin Singapore students. Groups must have at least 2 members in order to be eligible to use the rooms. Bookings of the Discussion Rooms may be made at the Library Counter. Please refer to the Group Discussion Room FAQ for more information.

Common study room

Location: Common study room (Block C, next door to temporary bookshop)

The Common Study Room is for students to do their studying and revision during operating hours. Please respect other users in this room by lower your voice and keep your conversation brief. Students are to be reminded on not to leave their belongings unattended at this room to avoid any inconveniences. All tables and chairs are NOT to be removed from their place.

Reading area

Location: Library (Block B, 1st floor)

Reading Area in the library is a designed Quiet Zone. This area is reserved for reading and individual studying activities, and must be absolutely quiet.

Leisure reading corner

Location: Library (Block B, 1st floor)

The Leisure Reading Corner is located just opposite to the Group Discussion Room. This area is equipped with comfortable sofas and small table. Users can enjoy their leisure reading on newspapers and magazines there.

Other services

User education

Library offers library instruction and training on the use of OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) and other information resources on an individual basis, as well as in groups. The aims of the instructional sessions are to equip users with information search skills for lifelong learning and to make efficient use of the various electronic resources available in the Bentley Library .

Library orientation

Library orientation is usually held in conjunction with Orientation Programme for new students. The aim of the session is to provide an overview of the resources, services and facilities in the library. For enquiries, please email singaporelibrary@curtin.edu.sg

Information skills workshop

This is an extension of Library Orientation and is carried out at the beginning of a new term for students. The aim of this workshop is to provide an overview of basic library skills. For enquiries, please email singaporelibrary@curtin.edu.sg

Reference by appointment

Reference by Appointment is a one-to-one meeting with the Librarian who will provide in-depth assistance tailored to your research needs. The focus of the meeting is to discuss approaches to doing research on your topic, identify relevant sources for you to get started and provide individualised training on the use of recommended sources. Printing and photocopying services

Location: Library (Block B, 1st floor)

2 network printers cum photocopiers are located at the Library for students to use during Library operating hours. Please check the printer's name pasted on the cover of the printer and make sure you select the printer's name before you start printing. The cost is $0.10 per page for black & white printing and $1.00 per page for colour printing and payment is made via Curtin Singapore ID card.

Students can place credit into their ID cards at the Library Counter. Minimum value to top up is S$2 and maximum is $20, which is non-refundable.

Singapore copyright act

Users are obliged to observe the Singapore Copyright Act when making photocopies. Photocopying and reproducing from books, journals, periodicals, etc. constitute infringements of copyright unless the acts fall within the exceptions.

There is a fair dealing exception for:

If your copying exceed the limits allowed under the Copyright Act, the University will not be liable for any infringement of copyright action which may be taken against you. In the event, you will be personally liable.

Document delivery services

This service supplies photocopies of journals articles and portions of books not available in the Curtin Singapore Library. Turnaround time for such materials is 2-28 days depending on the responsiveness of the suppliers. Requesters will be notified promptly when the materials arrive. Inter-library loan services

Eligible members can request for Inter-library loan to access publications and books not held by the Curtin Singapore Library. To request for this service, please read the Inter-library Loan FAQ.

Book recommendation for purchase

Staff and students are encouraged to share the responsibility of collection development by making recommendations for purchase to meet the teaching, learning and research needs of the University.

Recommendation may be submitted by emailing singaporelibrary@curtin.edu.sg. To minimize delays in the purchase of books, please provide as much of the information as possible, such as author, title, edition, ISBN, place of publication, publisher and date of publication.
